Local
Issues
Highways:
Cllr. Butcher noted details of a recent
meeting at Shalmsford Street between
County Cllr. Simmonds, City Cllr. Doyle,
Ruth Goudie from Kent Highway Services,
Cllr. Copeland and himself. A report
of the issues noted at the meeting was
read out by the Clerk and it is now up
to the Highways Inspector to inspect
the problems noted and mark up those
areas that require remedial action.
Street
Lighting: : Cllr. Copeland noted that
there were no major problems with the
street lights in the village.
Police:
It was noted that if a Parish Council
wants to buy the equipment necessary
to launch a ‘Speedwatch’ campaign,
it would cost in the region of £3,000.
It was suggested that we should contact
other neighbouring Parish Council’s,
such as Bridge, Petham, Harbledown,Thanington
and Chilham with a view to see if they would
be interested in sharing
the cost and equipment. The Clerk will
take the matter forward.
The
Community Warden, Nick Lord can be contacted
at his office at the Primary School.
His
telephone
number is 07969 583918.

Memorial
Field: It
was noted that the Clerk had ordered
new signs for
the toilet block on the Memorial playing
field to confirm the times when the
building will be open and closed to
the public. It was agreed at the last
Parish Council meeting that the toilets
would close at 6.00 p.m. or ‘Dusk’
War
Memorial: It was reported that we had
now received the £300 grant from
the Friends of War Memorials, towards
the cost of cleaning the War Memorial.
Cllr. Goff stated that he would mow the
area before Remembrance Day and will
endeavour to plant some winter flowers
as well.
Play
Areas:
It was noted that the Parish Council
has now received the annual ROSPA safety
inspection report on the six play areas
in the parish, which was undertaken
in July 2005. The Clerk has drawn up
a list of repairs to be undertaken
and stated that he will liaise with
the respective play area inspectors
to organise a schedule of works on
the list of recommendations and repairs.
